IN RESPONSE to your front page lead on July 23 about the federation of the grammar and high schools in Boston ('School's out for ever') I would just like to clarify the following points.
Although governors have decided that the first mixed intake in September 2009 will be at the Boston High School site, no decision on where the single mixed school will be placed has yet been made.

This will be made by governors, possibly when the
y meet to consider the outcomes of the feasibility study which is investigating not only the two existing sites but also the feasibility of new sites elsewhere in Boston. It is not a 'done deal' as Mr Campion claims.

As we stated in our replies to your questions, the governors have been considering their options and feasibility studies are relatively expensive to carry out, so until there was clarity over the brief for the study it could not be carried out. So in reply to Mr Campion's comments, this is the quite reasonable answer as to why it was not started last September, which was, after all, the first month of the federation.

The key consideration for governors when deciding where the new site for a mixed school should be is providing the best facilities and education in the best place for the young people of Boston.

Assistant director of children's services (Lincolnshire County Council)
