UPDATE: RAF Cranwell crash drama

Thursday, 8am - An investigation is underway after two airmen ejected safely when their jet aircraft crashed near Sleaford.

The crash happened at 3pm yesterday within the bounds of the airfield at RAF Cranwell. It is not thought that the jet, a Hawk trainer aircraft, was taking off or landing at the time, but crash landed in a car park near the air traffic control tower.
RAF spokesman Wg Cdr Andy McGill said: "Both crew ejected safely and are currently being assessed medically. The civilian Air Ambulance is at the scene along with a RAF Search and Rescue helicopter.
"We do not know what caused this incident, however, a board of inquiry is being established to investigate all aspects of the crash. The next of kin have been informed."
Investigators are due at the scene today to begin their work.
