North Kesteven’s planning committee last Tuesday agreed unanimously to permit the scheme for a depot for NKDC’s household waste collection service on land connected to the Moorlands industrial estate off Moor Lane. The decision comes despite parish council fears of increased traffic and noise disturbance to residents through the village from the 66 staff cars and 36 bin trucks. But county highways officers did not believe it would cause a significant issue. It will see the council’s depot relocate from the other side of Metheringham on the B1188 Lincoln Road, which has become tight for space as demand grows and surrounded by housing. NKDC Development Manager Mark Williets said, as well as the unit housing offices, restrooms and workshops, there would be seven adjoining light industrial units for small businesses and provision for solar cells on the roof. Ward member Coun John Money was pleased that the depot would remain in Metheringham, with staff using local shops. He said the land had long been earmarked for industrial use and he supported the application. Coun Richard Wright said he regularly drove past the site and did not believe it would not have a huge impact on traffic. Coun Ian Carrington commented: “This is as far as possible from residential development. It ticks all the boxes and the refuse team do a fantastic job in the toughest conditions and deserve the best possible facilities.”
