Tuesday, 4.30pm - BOSTON has a new world champion in the shape of Bicker's Chris Walden, who won the two-litre banger world title at the Norfolk Arena on Sunday night – his third major race victory in four weeks.
Despite the huge success Boston banger drivers have had on the nation's circuits there has only ever been one previous Boston winner in the event's 32-year history, Mo Brown taking the crown back in 1990.

The year-long qualifying campaign saw Walden start from a prominent row two position, and when the flag dropped he moved in to track leader Roy Gedge.

Walden was relegated to third by a quick-moving Michael Allard (Yarmouth), but at the halfway stage he found himself leading the race and having to fend off a strong challenge from Ash Burton (Kettering).
After a stoppage following a fire on Sheffield driver Ricky Finney's car, the bruising, hard-hitting race resumed with Walden tracked by the quick trio of Luke Parfitt (Norwich), Lee Overy (Chelmford) and Andy Battle (Dover).

However, he showed the rest of the pack a clean pair of heels and motored on to take the chequered flag and send the large contingent of Boston-based fans into party overdrive.

Walden reappeared in the meeting final and came home in 10th place.
Walden's world win follows a series of wins which currently make him the most successful banger driver in the country – at the end of July he won the BBA British Championship at Mildenhall, then recording a win in the Crashattack final at Skegness.

Painting Chris's grade colour on his roof is going to prove to be a challenge now for better half Zara – while most drivers have just one colour to represent, Chris has the silver of the points champion, the gold of the world champion and the black and white check of the British champion... together with some flashing lights to represent his superstar status.

Chris was the only local driver on the world grid, but not the only driver at the meeting with several of Boston's other top names also in action.

The Mr Men had another large presence but did not get in the results. However, Bobby Daniels (Boston) received a merit award for his Montego hearse – the first car of its kind to be raced in England.

Simon Fixter went all sporty with a superb looking Toyota Celica, but the throttle stuck open in the first race and he hit the fence hard before the throttle cable snapped within half a lap of the consolation.
Also in action was Dean Moljourd who was up all night the night before getting his car on track and Gary Beecham, whose old Cortina wasn't allowed to race.

Stock car and banger racing returns to the Norfolk Arena on Bank Holiday Monday (1pm).
